The passage from Madeira was frustrating because of lack of wind----for once the forecast was right! It was 301 miles and took 53 hours at an average speed of 5.66 knots. Disappointingly we had to motor for 28 hours (53%).
Now for the really good news----the windex worked all the way. The problem was literally staring us in the face the whole time. The only bit we had not replaced was the display head which is the display in the cockpit showing us what the wind is doing. When I spoke, yet again, to the agent in the UK he said ''oh, I suppose it could be that'' so a new display head was sent out to Madeira, in double quick time by UPS----despatched Tuesday lunchtime from Lymington and arrived at the marina at the east end of Madeira at 1033 on Thursday. We wired it up and it has worked perfectly so hopefully that is the end of the widex saga----thank goodness I hear you say!
We are likely to stay here for a few days--turquoise, warm water and sunshine.
