Azores
to Dartmouth, Day 10 - Saturday June 12,
2010 At
1200 hrs UT: 49:24.4N
6:46.8W Distance
to Dartmouth: 132 Nautical Miles We’ve now entered the English Channel and are presently just south of Lands End. Despite a good half day’s sail still ahead of us, the sound of 'Falmouth Coastguard' over the radio is a clear indication that we’ve finally arrived in friendly waters. In recognition
of our transatlantic adventure, we broke out the last of the summer sausage
and toasted our arrival in UK waters, as well as the genius behind fine
cured meats. It’s now become open season on all cookies, cakes and
condiments. But more importantly, the Hoff has OK'd use of fresh
rather than salt water for washing up – so we finally can bid farewell to that
all too familiar salty residue. With that, I formally resign as Knightime's journeyman blogologist and maritime satirist. We hope to arrive in Dart Marina sometime on Sunday. All future press inquiries may be directed to our humble, yet exalted skipper, who kept our spirits more buoyant than the ship itself throughout the entire passage.
This was trully an opportunity of a lifetime, but one ocean crossing may be enough - I hear airplanes are the way to go these days!
