It finally feels as though we've reached America. We're in the entrance to a series of canals and lakes which will take us right through the middle of Nova Scotia. As we were coming in there were a series of channel marker buoys and they were the wrong colours! Over here, you leave red buoys to starboard when you enter a channel so that's all needlessly confusing. The lighthouses on the spits are white painted clapperboard and look like old windmills. Suddenly, the houses are large with lawns and look very prosperous. It's picture postcard stuff and it feels as though we're right back in civilisation.

There still aren't many other vessels around - just a few fishing boats - so perhaps everyone has gone back home for the autumn.
