Row Across The Pond

Sorry for the delay but we have been getting our
sea legs having set off at 1330 on the 4th.I have to say even if we dont win the
racce outright (which we will of coiurse) we took the whole fleet by surprise
and blew themall away off the start... that felt real good. The following two
days has been pretty much as predicted with the stronger crews heading, i think
further west.We have chosen the southern route given that a big low was headed
over. It is a bit of gamble which hopefully will pay off when we get the trusty
trade winds. We have had to work hard for the hundred or so miles as the wind is
fairly fresh and the waves are probably 5 or so Jeremy high. For those who dont
know he is my son and approx a metre tall... anyway i probably wrong on that but
take my word the waves are lumpy enough things that get in the way. We are
eating well and have averted upto this point any sea sickness.. earlydays.. i am
writing this lying on my back in a cabin hardly big enough to sit up in and
about 35 degrees c.yeh i know its cold there...we had a visitr from a
really graceful seabird, perhaps a sea bird book would have been
handy but instead i will have to appeal to anyone who may know what it was.. it
was shaped much like a swallow but twice three times bigger, brown in colour
with black stripes on its wings, hugely gracefull and skilful over the
waves....its name was kev. anyway we have covered a hundred or so miles and we
have just be pleased with that... all fine on the little yellow boat... I will
measure the waves in 'olivers' next time, he is ten years old and prob 300mm
taller than jeremy.... no sign of dolphins whales or sharks,, early days.... i
will to bolg daily from now on but sometimes it may be tough out here so forgive
me.... thats all from steve
maybe i'll do one day and richard could the next..
thats a plan.
ps dont forget you can track us on the woodvale
race web site. I think we are light blue colour.. also if anybody can tell me
how team red arrows are doing tha would great.ALso send them a message saying we
are beating them, even if were not, if you see whati mean and dont forget to say
on that message hi froim steve and rich,,, no fear
ta.
