Wednesday is officially the new Sunday

Row Across The Pond

For all those who have taken part in a
marathon/triathlon, you'll be really familiar with the real lethargy you start
to feel when you start to taper your training leading up to the big
event.....now imagine having the start delayed :-(
It's even worse in the world of ocean rowing...as
you've officially been categorised as overweight during your annual Bupa
healthcheck, had the doctor become puzzled when you were overjoyed at your
cholesterol levels rocketing and have the body shape more of a sumo than an
athlete! The race is going to take its toll on us so the extra blubber is really
needed....but now I just wan't to set off...the Sunday start has moved to
Wednesday and it's a real mental blow.
As I sit looking out to sea while writing this blog
from the clifftops of La Gomera, you can see the white wave tops out in the
'acceleration zone' between the islands of Tenerife and La Gomera....this is a
local weather phenomena whereby the wind/waves channel between the island and
create an effect that can slingshot you out into the Atlantic. Alas, we're being
slingshot nowhere at the moment. So today was filled up with repacking the boat,
swimming in the sea, blogging and hopefully going out to the farewell party for
freinds/family who have come out to see us leave, but now will be heading home
early.
Thanks for all the mails that you are sending with
best wishes, it really does help and should keep us going during the tough
days ahead.
