Row Across The Pond

Today we opened the first of my letters for the journey that had been pulled together by my wife Louise, Steve and myself were in for a great surprise. Lou had got some motivational words from James Cracknell for our first week at sea (she got it spot on with this little present). We were told that the painful rowing regime gets physically and mentally better over time and that we should focus on chipping away at our goals in a slow and methodical way...the journey is an amazing one and that it will teach you things about yourself in the most unexpected ways. On a painfully hot labourious day of rowing this little gift of a few words has transformed our moods..cheers Lou :-)

Each day we await our mails with anticipation to see how we are doing in the race..yesterday we were told that by some freak accident that we were in second place. Even if the end sees us arrive down the pecking order it is great to at one stage be mentioned with the frontrunners. Our progress now totally depends on the weather systems we encounter...we have 600 miles left on our current leg to reach the trade winds, where we will tick off the serious mileage. We could be in the trades within a couple of weeks (finger crossed for fair winds)....I swear our good luck so far was due to that bottle of champagne we broke over the boat in Gomera ;-) (thanks to the boogiewoogie team for the bottle)

No new wildlife to report...am waiting for the whales that some teams said visit at night, a scary prospect during a night shift on the oars.

So, we're plodding on hour after hour, rowing our way home :-)
