whilst tracking along nicely, we found out that one of our
three compases was showing an error. being tired from the boat duties needed to
keep going, i was calculating a theoretical error into a compass that was alredy
incorrect... bad news and steering was a little wobbly. however we now know our
main ships compass is at least tallying with theGPS, so should we lose power we
at least have one accurate compass. however, we noted a glitch with our GPS
which was intermittentll losing signal,a temporary problem which is possibly
loss of sattelite link in this area.,, up till now we have had other boats on
our radar and have occassionally been within sight of other boats. this morning
we lost contact with the other boats due to our small course alteration. we are
now slighty further west which is fine as we believe the forecast is favourable
for the next 5 days. we still have kev with us and for those who need a better
description to confirm it is a skewer? it is about the size of a pidgeon,
swallow shaped, flies skimming the water, is brown in colour and has a flash
stripe on each wing... yesterday we were visited by dolphins on more than one
occassion and i jumped in to swim with them.. they were a bit shy and soon left.
or perhaps i smell..... No of course not. also inspected the bottom of the
boat for free riders and anti foul is doing good. lovely little black and white
fish trailing along.. days are long nights are longer but i am
thinking this may change as the heat will increase... to answer
a question or two... yes we have been in sight of other boats but
that will now change.. also we are travelling at such a fast pace!!!
we only have time to plot our course once each day... truthfully it is because
we are only doing 50 odd miles a day.. the G force is incredible.. we cant wait
to hit the accel/aration zone.. the wind today is on our beam and is making it
hard work.. zzzz until my next shift in t - 36mins..,/
a couple of questions from my sis... do we ever row together?
no we are not rowing two up even though we could do if we wanted to as the boat
does have two 'pairs' of rollocks.....! our shift system is 1 hour on/off during
day and 2 hours on/off in night... easy time!!
today i would like to say hello to Jamie and Jess and
hope you eat all
your brussel sprouts with your diiner,
steve
