Life in La Gomera, nothing has changed

Row Across The Pond

We're back in the same old apartment block we left before Christmas, so seems like we were never away. The major psycological difference is that before we could see no window in the weather and just an endless parade of identical days stretching out before us (without rowing) and now there is the distinct possibility that we could be going very soon. The high pressure that was spotted before Christmas wasn't a mirage and has actually taken hold in the mid-Atlantic hopefully pushing the low pressure systems further north, allowing us to take to sea. As with all weather forecasts, this does come with a rather large caveat that it could be 100% wrong!

With the weather so screwy this year, the tactics will need to be changed, the strategy has to be to race for the trade winds as quickly as possible, so that means setting the compass to due south and rowing like crazy to avoid the storms that are sweeping across to you guys in the UK. The trade winds are blowing this year but are considerably weaker :-(
La Gomera has been battered by terrible weather for the weeks we have been away, the boat had alot of water in it when we went to pump it out. They obviously had alot of rain.

The boat is getting scrutineered tomorrow, so we'll be given a clean bill of health I'm sure and then we're having the race start briefings (again). The cogs are in motion for a start, we've a weather update in the morning so will have more news then.
