Strange to be back

Now it's a really weird feeling to be back in La Gomera after a Christmas with friends and family back in the UK. What a contrast going from sledging with the kids (at minus 2 degrees) to sitting in the sun (at 25 degrees)...even weirder to be trying to get your head around starting the race again.
I (Richard) arrived back on the island late last night and decided to sleep on the boat rather than trawl round the cheap hotels looking for a bed to sleep in. Glad I did, as it was a real pleasure sitting on the boat, flipping the back hatch and falling asleep with a full night sky shining down. Sometimes you have those perfect moments and it makes you realise how lucky you are to have the opportunity to be in that place at that moment.
It certainly makes you reflect on all the people that have made sacrifices...my wife (who is left to run a home and the stress of bills, repairs etc. without me), kids (who are fatherless for 2 months), work (who have supported me both financially and with endless wishes of good luck).
As I sit here now in the harbour I just want to start the journey home...it's been two years of pain for those around me and now I need to get back to start paying back the debts I owe....(to Lou, start making that list up, starting with 1.painting the bathroom door)

As it stands, we should be off in the next few days...but it's going to be a rough crossing. The waves are all wrong :-(
