The progress we've made in our first 24 hours was not too bad - 176 Nm. We
passed the Isles sous le Vent, also known as Bellinghausen en Scilly
Islands, and passed Mahuae, an atoll, really closely. After the buzz of the
Societies it was almost inconceivable to think that there is a village on
that remote island. Well, remote... there was a lot of activity going on
there. Wildlife, to be precise. A flock of about a hundred seabirds of
different kinds were feeding. The same must have happened under the water,
since we saw the big fish jump out. Talking of fish: the line stayed in
today, we found it just a bit too rolly. May be tomorrow.

Merel did see a sign of other human life as well. Out of the blue a sleek
private jet appeared from behind, descending low over the water to have a
closer look at Miss Molly and banking to port, climbing back up and
disappearing into the clouds. Really weird out here!

We have not seen the Southern Cross yet, too many clouds for that. Or did it
may be get bankrupt and therefore drop out of the sky?

Cheers for now from
Geoff & Merel
