It's been a while since we've been updating the blog. Island exploring just
takes up too much time away from the boat! We left Tahaa about 2 weeks ago
and had a great sail to Bora Bora. Apart from the usual island stuff
(snorkelling, kayaking) we also rented bicycles to circumcycle the island
(32 km was enough to give us numb bums) and climbed 1of the 2 the impressive
twin peaks of Paihia Mountain. Quite a steep clamber and some bits of the
trail had to be negotiated with the aid of a rope. It took us about 6 hours
to walk up and down the 650 meter peak. But the view from the top was worth
it. You could look 360 degrees around the island and its surrounding reef
system. Geoff's son James flew back to England last Tuesday so that means
full on back to boat work for Geoff & Merel.
The weather is a bit unsettled here and the forecast for the next week is
30+ knots. So we took the opportunity of today's calm weather to sail back
to Raiatea. It turned out to be a quite nice sail, no motoring! We were
close hauled, had a breeze of 15 knots and were doing 9 knots to windward!
Very pleasing performance from Miss Molly. We are currently anchored of the
Moorings base, where we will go ashore to explore a bit.
