Despite that we were motoring, the trip to Tahiti was not uneventful. When we passed Pointe Venus, the most Northern tip of Tahiti, Geoff saw a whale almost completely coming clear of the water between us and the island! He started yelling at Merel to come up quickly (she was down below and missed it) to watch that spectacle. But the whale only showed his back and a few sprays. Anyway, a nice welcome to Papeete, where we arrived at 17.00 local yesterday the 25th July.

Was nice to be back here again and thankfully the anchorage was not too busy. Nonetheless it took us 4 attempts to get a good dig on the anchor and by that time both we and the anchor winch were getting pretty anxious about getting settled down for the night as dusk was fast approaching.

After a quick trip to the local Carrefour supermarket (heaven in the middle of the Pacific) where we loaded up with a nice fresh baguette, pate and some brie we headed home for a quick bite and an early night, we managed to sleep for 12 hours non stop, but no surprise if you think that it was not even a month ago since we left the Galapagos, now 3,943 miles behind us.

This morning was time for a thorough wash down of the boat to get rid of all the salt and also time for some laundry.

We will be in Tahiti for at least a week and the surrounding islands for the next 2 months. We will update the blog once we start moving again, probably about a week, and we would like to add some photo's to it as well when we've got a chance.

Cheers from Geoff & Merel
