UTC 1201.
September 23rd…

We are on anchor next to the most South point of the Vulcano Island…
There is nothing here…

There are lighthouse, the dock with the few small fishing boats,  a couple of houses…  In one — they said there is a small family restaurant, where you can try the fantastic fish… ( The description says — you have to book ahead… And its sounds — the place is extremely busy…  Which may be true,  during the so called ‘high season’… But right now -  I think the it is more the dinner with the owners of the restaurant… and reservation — is nothing more then ’self invitation ‘ for the dinner…  ).

In front of us — the small beach. With the small restaurant… It is a nice sunny day… Relatively warm, I would even say — hot…
But there is only one person on the beach… and she appeared to be working in the restaurant…

The beach accessible only by boat…  But only one boat has passed by….   And by 1700 local time — the owner closed the restaurant, and all the stuff, all 5 of them — left…  Laughing,  having beer, and putting the fishing lines in the water, as the dinghy was carrying them around the corner…

We are alone in the small bay… The place is so isolated that — if I recalling correctly — for the first time of the season, the phone is not connecting to the Internet…. ( I’m retyping that from the log book records,  2 days later.. ;-)). How the people in the houses are living, and got communications — I have no idea.  How the clients from the boats should make reservations over the phone — I have no clue…

I can see Sicilly coast  further Sourth…  The distance is about 13 nm…

Why are we there ?  The weather forecast says that it would be the W, and then NW wind blowing during most of the evening, night, and then — the whole tomorrow…  For a few hours — the wind is forecasted to be up to 17-19 knts.   Nothing spectacular.   But it is not the wind, but rather the swell from the West, up to 1.3 m  (  ~4 ft ) with 4 s interval — forced us to leave from the Porto Ponente  on the North of the island…  Again, nothing spectacular — I did not want to be in a small harbour, completely opened to that swell, all night, and then try to leave in the morning…

So,  the place we are in — should provide us protection from both the wind and the swell.  Going ahead,  I should say — it has done!  And the wind started as was forecasted, and waves started to build up… And we were totally protected,  watching the rain coming over the top of the high mountain, and then the  lights of Sicily, and later at night — the clean sky with the stars…

Our next destination — Sicily.  But I have not  to decide yet, which place exactly.  I hope the decision will come by itself! ;-)

That is all about that place. Everything is fine,

Talk to you soon,
M.
