We are still in Porto Colom,  at the same place.  Kind of at the same place, since I have to move the anchor, and re-position the anchor chain a couple of times — to protect Pocidonia grass…

The universal rule — when you do not understand something, talk to people — sometimes  make wonders.  At least, it worked for me today…
I talked to the people, who are actually watching after Pocidonia — and at least, I understood what they are trying to achieve, and got their position…

First, they are doing it because they like their place very much. And they would like to preserve it… At the same time, they would like to bring more boaters into Porto Colom… One of the solution I was told about — to install modern mooring in the area which I’m anchored now… Under modern mooring, they mean  the new technology, with a very small ground foot, and more holding strength…  Which should at the same time increase the amount of boats, which may occupy the same area….  And then — drums! — they want those mooring to be taken on the first come, first get bases,  FREE!   The idea is — it will brings tourists, and the tourists will bring local economy growth….
They also want to do it not only in Porto Colom, but around all Beleares Islands…

May be a bit more ambitious then one may imagine at the beginning!  But the movement is growing, and is taking momentum.
( As a boater, you may like it or not…  But, using my analogy in the previous post — FREE well organised and maintained  ‘parking space’ …  Why not ?!  ).

The interesting part — the movement is growing from the bottom up…  With the hope, at certain point,  to get wider attention and more support from the government…  But that is the hope, that is the future…

At the mean time, the patrol boat is periodically checking the area, and is asking the fellows boaters to move the anchors, to reposition their lovely boats…  Most people follow the instructions…. I was told — some were fined…

Everybody may have different opinion on the subject…
When I was crossing the Atlantic, I have seen so much garbage floating around… Not only in the Atlantic…  Just 60 nm away, in Palma harbour,  the actual beginning of the summer season has been marked by rapid growth of the amount of the garbage in the water…

Today, meeting and talking to people who are actually trying to do something  to preserve the environment, and  to preserve the beauty of the sea… grab my attention, definitely…  At least, their position and intentions are clear now!

I wish I would pass by the place in a couple of years… I just wonder what would be the actual changes!

The evening is slowly falling on the harbour… Before it getting completely dark,  I’ve checked if the chain is still on the sand… Did the guys  really get to me?!

That is all for now.

Talk to you soon,
M.
