"On Holiday" 25th
June - 1st July
We have spent the past week generally relaxing and
enjoying being back 'home' but on holiday in Cornwall! Falmouth
for us is a beautiful town to arrive at after such a long trip as
indeed it was for shipping arriving in the English in bygone years.
We spent a couple of days doing
the essentials, like catching up on mending things, doing
the washing, re-fueling, shopping and generally making
Whisper shipshape again. More enjoyably, we have spent some time
walking with my son Mark and Sox, enjoying his local haunts in the forest and
along the beach and cliffs of Cornwalls west coast. We also had
a very enjoyable day visiting the Maritime Museum which was full of
interest. Whilst we were there, we watched a film of very old black
and white cine camera footage taken on board a square rigger many years
ago. How pleased I was that I had not watched this film before I
set off on our passage from the Azores! It was quite scary and the
young sailors so brave and determined, I am not so sure that I would have been
so brave had I known!
There is so much to do and enjoy in the Fal River,
we took the ferry over to St Mawes and walked along the coastal
footpath to St Just in Roseland where there is the most beautiful church that I
have ever seen. We then crossed over the peninsula and walked down the
other side picking up the coastal path again. Our thoughts while we have
been exploring this small area of Britain is that, we have traveled many miles
and seen and visited many magnificent places on our travels and having
arrived home, there are still places and things that are so amazing and
beautiful right here under our noses. The world is simply full of beauty
and wonder no matter where you are!
After a week here we now feel well rested and
tomorrow we plan to leave Falmouth and cruise slowly homeward up the English
Channel.
