"24th June Day - Falmouth"

We have arrived and what a reception we received!

We approached the marina looking for a place to berth and as we headed for a suitable place we were pleased to see that two people were hurrying along the pontoon to take our lines!  You could not be imagine our surprise and sheer delight to realise that these two people were our very dear and close friends from the east coast whom we thought to be in Holland sailing on their yacht and yet here they were, not hundreds of miles away, but just a few feet from us poised and smiling ready to take our lines.  For a minute every thing stood still as we gazed and realised just how special these friends were to have made such an enormous effort to be in Falmouth to greet us, words failed us and we are still in awe of the immense effort and sacrifice they made to be here for us.  Quickly realising that we needed to conclude our approach, lines were thrown and once secure emotion followed.

This was only the beginning of our arrival, we then learnt that several yachts from our home yacht club at Walton & Frinton were in the harbour.  The various crews were surprised to see Beryl and Simon at the quayside earlier in the day and soon learnt of our pending arrival.  Within minutes of us arriving the pontoon was full of the familiar faces of our yacht club members.  We felt like celebrities as we were congratulated on making our passage in what had turned out to be horrendous weather conditions.  It was an overwhelming and special experience and soon celebrated with a bottle of Champagne provided by Beryl and Simon.  It was quickly arranged that we should stay at the Bed & Breakfast hostel where our friends were staying and a long, shower was enjoyed there before the four of us enjoyed dinner together exchanging news and telling tales of our adventures.  This was a day that we shall never forget and we thank everyone for their part in making our return to the UK so memorably exciting and most especially to our dear friends, Beryl and Simon, what an effort....thank you both!
