"Gastronomic Delights of Falmouth"
Still in Falmouth, waiting for the weather to
change. The stay here has enabled us to do a little shopping in the quaint
and atmospheric High Street and the several jobs which needed to be done on
Whisper. The list is getting shorter, but we need the wind to ease so that
we can do the necessary jobs on the mainsail. We lost a batten in the blow
coming to Falmouth and also one of the sliders broke under the tension of the
reef in the sail and probably ageing weathered plastic. We hope to fix
these tomorrow so that we are ready to depart on our second leg, which will
probably be either late Monday or Tuesday afternoon, there is a high moving in
so hopefully we should get some favourable weather.
We don't seem to have stopped working since we
arrived here, but it has given us the wonderful chance to enjoy the local
quiscine. On Thursday we enjoyed a wonderful meal at "The Shack", which I
mentioned in the last diary entry. Last night we went to the Harbour
Lights Fish n Chips, 2012 Winner of the Best British Fish n Chips Award (like
Scooby's). The take away queue stretched up the street so we ate in the
restaurant overlooking the harbour and river entrance, it was a delicious meal
with the added bonus of a gorgeous view, it certainly deserved the award.
Tonight we visited "The Hut", down in the depths of the building; the meal
was superb and the young staff so enthusiastic and attentive. In fact the
staff of all the shops and restaurants have been quite charming, friendly,
helpful and happy in their work. Falmouth is really a lovely place to
be and we are enjoying it, but need to move onwards before the calories pile
on.
