"St Georges Bay - 13th December"
A hot and dry sunny day, not a drop of rain
anywhere. The day has been spent "post Atlantic spring cleaning" our
little ship, unjumbling cupboard contents, taking stock of the food
cupboard and finally armed with a list of necessities, taking a trip to the
local supermarket. We waited for the day to cool before setting off
to do the shopping, by this time it was nearly dark (night fall occurs quickly
at about 6pm in this part of the globe). As we went to leave the GYC, a
taxi in the carpark offered to take us to the supermarket, wait whilst we
shopped and bring us back, this was quickly accepted and the whole exercise
took us less than an hour.
During our stay here, Noel was persuaded to
visit the local Barber, discovered and recommended by Mick before
he left us. This lovely young man, tall and black skinned
had his tight curly hair coloured and styled in a yellow and
orange striped mohican. This young man was expecting "the skipper" and once
Noel had settled in the chair, asked him if he would like a full West
Indian. Noel, although not knowing what this was, said yes straight
away! I watched in amazement as his lovely white locks fell to the
floor, mingling with the barber's small sons black curls, which
he had been cutting when we arrived. He took
considerable time and care wielding his clippers, first this way up and
then that, all the while chatting away to Noel. When he produced the cut
throat razor, I had to look the other way! The result was a complete
transformation, I now know how ruthless I can be when I am next asked to perform
this task. The young man hooted with laughter when we left and I said to
him, "I brought in Santa Claus and now I am leaving with James
Bond!"
