"Grenada YC, St George's -- 26/27th
December"
We left the tranquillity of Hog Island and our
chums with cheery waves and the sound of a conch shell being blown, with the
promise to meet up in Tyrrel Bay, Carriacou for New Year's Eve. Finding
our way out of the reef was not as stressful as the way in, as we had
purchased a Windward Islands guide with up to date bouyage and masses of local
information. The sun was shining, the wind was from the east, so with
headsail only we had a lovely fast passage back around to St George's. We
had just tied up at the Yacht Club when the heavens opened and in no time we
were soaked to the skin again, only to have the sun come back out 5 minutes
later!
The next morning we set about the various tasks we
needed to do. First, visit Immigration (happily it was not a problem that
we had not completed form E/D for Tony and Mick as they had arrived by sea
and left by air, we do not have to pay a fine, nor will we be thrown in jail);
then Chandlers (still no luck in purchasing a dinghy, being an island they have
to wait for the container to arrive by ship and then for Customs clearance and
the department does not work on New Years day and then their stock may have been
cornered by a sister branch on another island!); the inevitable washing; setting
up the ships router for our Wifi (a task I have been putting off since I
received the new adapter in Madeira, as I needed both a good Wifi connection to
be found on shore and power for the 12 volt route found only on the boat, then I
remembered our power pack has a 12 volt socket - problem solved at YC over
a beer or two, wires and aerials trailing out of bags hiding the power pack
etc. it must have looked very suspicious, now it just needs Noel to put
the box of contents all back together again and seal it so that we can hoist it
up the mast and use it); restocking the larder (not the best of days to do this
after the seasons festivities wherever you are, let alone on an island!).
All tasks accomplished we shall sail to Carriacou in the
morning.
