Whisper

As I said in my last diary entry, chart plotters
are not to be trusted! I was very amused to see that the Google Map gives
the impression that we traveled overland from Walton-on-the-Naze to
Brightlingsea! As Noel is fond of quoting, "this course cannot (or in our
case "could not") be sailed due to the presence of land". All our
earlier problems are now sorted. The Navman has had its
loose wire reconnected and now works. The new marine loo has been fitted
and tested well by young Mia and found to be very effective. We said
'good-bye' to our family and very dear friends yesterday, with tea and homemade
cake at our favourite "cafe" in Back Waterside Lane, followed by fish 'n chips
on board.
The wind blew hard all night and continued
through the day. Some brave sailors left the harbour today. We
watched as they heeled under engine and bare poles. We made our
decision neither of us wanted to start off in such conditions.
We spent the day, re-stowing heavy gear
and many other small necessary jobs. This evening, we made our
farewells to everyone yet again and enjoyed a very lovely roast dinner
with dear friends, who clearly felt that the 'would be mariners' needed feeding
up before they left port.
Thank you everyone for your contributions to making
our stay in Brightlingsea a very happy one over the past few days.
Tomorrow's forecast looks calmer.
Whisper is ready, everything is stowed and working, even the chart
table is cleared. I fear that the skipper will be up at the
break of dawn to make that early morning cuppa. I can tell that
he is ready for "the off"!
