We ran up Whisper's engine again this morning,
just to be sure all was ok and finally left Quinto do Lorde Marina at
10:30. We set the sails straight away, but as there was not enough wind we
kept the now happy engine running. After an hour or two the wind
increased, the engine was turned off and we had a cracking good sail with 9
knots of wind on our beam and heading in the right direction with a speed of 5-6
knots and a very calm sea. The sun was shining, although Madeira's peaks
were shrouded in cloud, we had been frustrated at not being able to leave
Madeira sooner, but todays sail made it all worth while waiting
for.
Our next planned stop will be the Selvagem islands,
but this depends on our sped of progress as there is another storm approaching
our area and we would like to be tucked up in Santa Cruz (Tenerife) before its
predicted arrival of Tuesday.
