"21 Days At Sea - 28th November"
Only 231 miles to go! It is a beautiful sunny
day, nothing much has changed, even the wind is from the same direction,
although it strengthened yesterday and we have been flying along ever
since. Our record miles covered in 24hrs is now 150!
Yesterday, we saw another yacht on the horizon,
this caused great excitement as it is the first we have seen since we left
La Gomera. We called them up on the radio, which caught them unawares
as they had not seen us! Hardly surprising as they were a Swan 82,
enormous compared to our 36 feet! We gave them our position and only
then did they see us as we rose out of the swell. They were on their way
from Tenerife to Antigua and must have gone further south than us before taking
their course to Antigua. They crossed our bow some miles away, before
disappearing below the horizon to the north west of
us.
We must be getting closer to land now as we saw a
couple of sea birds again yesterday. One was an immature Ring Billed Gull,
he did not land on board but kept circling us and landing in the water. As
we sailed away he was soon lost from view only to come chasing after us and land
elegantly next to us again. He did this for about an hour, but as it was
getting dark he finally stopped and like Gulliver, we did not see him
again.
We also saw a tanker last night but as it was 7
miles away, we quietly passed port to port.
If this wind holds up, which it should do according
to our grib files (weather predications) we should arrive at St Lucia on
Friday! My bad "hair days" have all linked up into one big birds nest and
is no longer responding to being brushed!
