I KNEW I should NEVER have done it myself!

Grrrrrr...
I knew I should never have attempted it!
I have had a software update for my satellite since September 2013. I know that that every time you update your computer it goes wrong - thats just the way life is, it always happens. So, in general unless it is a standard Windows update I always ignore them. This is particularly so when the update is for your satellite system and is more than a telephone but much more for safety and data when you are about to sail 3,000 miles across the Atlantic.
The satellite was working fine so why risk getting into all sorts of stress before the departure - leave it be.

Having arrived in St Lucia the satellite with the old software was still working fine.
But..
There really was no reason not finally update. The critical passage was over and we could manage without satellite for the next few months anyway if something did go wrong with the update.
So. I attempted it.
YES! It did seem to do what it said it should do as it went along.
It said, "restart your computer for the update to take affect" - so I did that too.

..and that was it.
NO INTERNET FOR YOU TIMELESS!
nothing.

Now my computer is well and truly stuffed with absolutely no access to the internet via wireless, cable or anything!
Oh. The satellite voice seems to be working ok though - bully for them.
It is going to require all the genius of all the techies back at the office to sort my computer I'm sure and that cannot be for another few weeks.
I have NO idea what to do about making the computer talk to the satellite though. The chap that installed the satellite and the boat computer network it is a mere 3,000 miles away.

Still. at least the Apple computer and iPad seem to be working over the wifi anyway.

We leave for Martinique tomorrow.

WOOOOOH!!!!  You would not want to surf the internet by satellite!

The invoice for the satellite for the crossing was US$495 by the way!
All we did was download GRIB files and the odd email every other day and upload the blog entries - nothing really.
