Can you believe it! ..just as we were about to leave
Gocek to Fethiye
1st July Can you believe it! We were all set to leave the following day for Rhodes on the start back to the Atlantic Ocean, but no.. The large power boat next to us reversed into his berth but got it wrong. He banged into the port side of our boat with metal fenders giving us a nice chip in the gelcoat! Hmm..
It just so happened that his father and passenger was proficient at gelcoat repair they offered. A few hours and a ‘not so good gelcoat repair’ later the boat was indeed protected from the elements but the blemish would have to repaired properly.
Did we ever mention how much we
hate Mediterranean style mooring and how the only beneficiaries of this form of
mooring are the marina owners because they can jam so many more boats into their
facilities!
July 2nd. Our intention was to now leave Turkey and begin to head back out in a westerly direction towards the Atlantic for a September/October timeframe. The authorities require us to take the boat and crew to a ‘port of entry’, find a local agent and check-out. The nearest Port of Entry was Fethiye 10 mile detour. So, having duly sailed the 10
miles we moored at EEC marina for 3 hours whilst we checked-out. The administrators didn’t even want to see our precious Blue Card so carefully logged, registered and maintained - after all that effort too!! Checking-out took 2 hours.
Finally we were able sail out of Fethiye to go to ‘Kiziliuyruk Kobo’ a great anchorage 10 miles SW from Gocek across the bay and right at the entrance to the main bay a good distance towards Rhodes. |
