St Peter Port, Guernsey
We finally took ownership of “Timeless”!
Toby, (the man from Discovery), flies back to England and leaves us in St
Peter Port to enjoy cruising around the Channel Islands.
Well that was the plan but really, in this weather, we felt it would be
better nicely moored up in port with the heaters on and then brave the wind,
rain and cold wrapped up in our deepest Canadian winter Long John's to sample
the local restaurants and bars.
Gosh! We thought Canada was cold!
We have just taken ownership of our Discovery 55, a beautiful blue water
sailing yacht that will take us safely around the the world as we tick off each
item from our ‘bucket list’.
The team at Discovery have been fantastic during our handover period.
Nothing has been too much trouble and they have the patience of a Saint. I would
normally list a few names but it now seems I would have to list the whole
company!
As for the systems.Complex! Wow!
The yacht bristles with gadgets to keep us safe and comfortable. I’m told
that the engineering will all make sense in a few weeks. Hmm? They have never
seen me with computers have they!
What great place Guernsey turned out to be.
People are so friendly and such fun. Most of our time here has been
accumulating yet more ‘bits a piece’ for our boat, touring, and sampling the
excellent dining.
On our second night we were invited for cocktails by Mike on a brand new
and beautiful Oyster 57. We felt particularly privileged as were the very first
of I expect many guests to enjoy a nice glass of wine or two on board. This was
such a super initiation to the cruising life – thanks Mike!
Mike was particularly smart – in fact he is the first manager of a nuclear
power plant (or two!) that I have ever met.
(hmm..thinks.. I probably should have asked him if he could help me turn
the lights on in our boat.)
Now, if this rain would just stop for a few moments we could actually
really start to enjoy the boat. |
