After being
hold up in the boat for 36 hours in the wind and torrential rain we finally
emerged today.
Schools
were shut, roads closed, footpaths washed away and trees blew down – one of them
in front of us!
Actually,
the tree blew over in front of us the day before the big wind. We were happily
driving along the mountain side road and WHAM! I literally had to put my brakes
on fast to avoid driving into it. We saw it fall. Really! I then had to back up
and drive way over the other side of the road to go around it. hmmm... if this
was in Muskoka I would have popped the trunk, got out my chain saw (always
ready) and cut into pieces for firewood.
Anyway,
after the winds..
The local
volcano, Mount Teide, looked like it had a bit of snow on top of it – so we had
to visit.
The roads
had been snow ploughed and had previously been closed judging by the temporary
signs on the side of the road.
Gosh! It
was cold.
Everyone
wore their winter long johns, scarves, gloves and boots.
WE.. had our Canadian toques on! So there
you have it.
Up here;
snow, cold and winter wear
Down there;
sun, sand and bikinis! |
