This is a large bay with taverns and very close to ‘Dalyan’ and the ancient city of ‘Caunos’ which as we all know has those famous cliff tombs. It was a trip we had to do. The sail was pretty typical and we found a nice anchorage just off the beach.
Bob, Suzan and Les took the dinghy to explore the local town.

Ekincik is a totally non-touristy little gem. It was full of locals swimming and barbecuing. Bob was even able to buy a barbecued Corn on the cob - his favorite.

Bob arranged for one of the day tripper boats to take us to Dalyan and to come to our boat the next morning to pick us up.  We booked a restaurant for the evening on the beach. There just something fun about dingying over to the shore, pull the dingy up the beach and then stroll over to a restaurant that is right on the beach! ..at sunset
Thanks Bob & Suzan!

The forecast called for 25 kt winds for the next day and pushing us onto a lee shore. John decided to stay with the boat ‘just in case’ while the three of us boarded this unique painted wooden boat, which would take us down the river to enjoy all the sights.
Our first stop was to see the sea turtles. The local fisherman just throw in crab scraps and up the turtles pop through this very murky water. We bought three crabs for ourselves to be collected on the way back.
The next stop, after we had meandered through a couple of miles of high-sided reeds, was the ancient city of ‘Caunos’ and the cliff tombs.  We all agreed we should make our way to the tombs but where was this city! We just had a 45 minute stop.
Along the lane the locals were selling their fruit jam and juices. Very good. Organic fruit.

The tombs were fascinating, beautifully carved stone masonry ..and we found the pile of rocks that used to be a city!
Finally, the boat then took us to ‘Dalyan’ -  if only we had known the fruit here by the tombs was so much better than earlier!  It was now nearly 1 pm and time to return home.
The river is now so full of these day-tripper boats that it has become like a highway. Finally, we picked up our cooked crabs on the way back. By now over 50 boats lined the shore with day trippers. What a great trip!

Tuesday, June25th.

We now have to return back to Fethiye Bay.
