We return to “Timeless” in
Gozo.
We had just had a very busy time
back in Canada and England. We probably should have allowed more time looking
back on it – but hindsight is easy.
Ha! We now needed a rest!
We were excited to continue our
adventure of sailing back to the Atlantic Ocean. The next step would then be
Madeira, the Canaries and the Caribbean!
There would be several
highlights we were really looking forward too as we made our way west.
-
We intended to visit Tunisia
and Morocco – places we had often thought about visiting before.
-
We were intending to stop
over in southern Sicily. We had had a super time in Sicily earlier in the year
(Gosh! Was that visit just a few months ago!) and we were excited to see more
of it.
-
I also had a feeling that we
would be seeing Spain again (there is a lot of Spanish coastline towards the
end of the route we were thinking of taking).
-
Then there was the need to
sail the longest sail we had attempted thus far. Practically, we would need to
sail at least 600 miles to bypass the Algerian coastline. You can visit Algeria but visitors are
not particularly catered for and the paperwork is horrendous I’m told.
-
We were excited that Bob and
Cathy from Canada would be joining us again for a few weeks to share these
adventures and to assist us with that long sail.
Arriving back at the boat
entailed the bus from Malta airport and the ferry ride again.
We couldn’t wait to see the boat
and eagerly strained our eyes to catch first sight of it from the ferry.
There it sat.
Serenely waiting for our return.
‘Timeless” is a
beautiful looking boat and the striking dark blue hull and stunning white
superstructure stands out from the other boats moored in the marina.
We had received an email from the
marina manager whilst we were away asking if we would consider selling her.
Another sailboat owner had been enquiring after her. We had no interest in
selling her but that question does solidify your thoughts about how much fun you
are having on your adventures of which she is a key part of course.
“Timeless” takes everything that the weather throws at her in her stride
with grace and indifference. Whether at sea, at anchor or in dock she is a
beautiful boat to live on.
When we got back to the boat we
found that the power had been down for goodness knows how many hours. The marina
had allowed the electricity credit card to run out of money! They promised that
it had only just happened, hmmm..
However, the boat was spotless and had
clearly been regularly cleaned whilst we had been away.
Bob and Cathy arrived at the boat
after a short visit to Valletta in Malta.
We just needed to lift things back
out onto the deck that had been put away, get provisions, inspect the rigging
and such things and then the four of us would be off to southern
Sicily.
