Avlemonas, Island of Kythira.
Avlemonas, Position: 36:13:33N 23:04:13E
July 9th, 2013 On our way into the Aegean Sea
from Sicily we passed through the straits at Cape Maleas situated on the SE
corner of Peloponnisos. We noticed
that this was only 60 miles to the north of our current position, Khania. We
considered the anchorages around there at the time in case of an emergency.
There was a cute little village on a cute little island and it had a cute little
anchorage too – and it was only 50 miles away from us. It was now late afternoon
and so we could be at the anchorage by dawn the next morning. The anchorage was great. It wasn’t crowded. It was great holding and there seemed to be a neat little harbour for the small local fishing boats – probably a tavern too. Isolated along a long empty beach
with only the seagulls as company we slept all day and all night. We found a super little tavern. Being the only customers the owner prepared the exact meal we wanted and lent us the use of his WiFi (great speed on a tiny island!) – we FaceTime’d Mum from the terrace and gave her a first hand view of the island, the harbor, the beach, ‘Timeless’ and our meals! I love the internet. Being full of beans we were both
keen to head for Malta. |
