Concarneau

We arrived in Concarneau during the closing days of a large festival celebrating Brittany’s cultural heritage and an excuse to wear their traditional costumes. We enjoyed traditional music, parades, side stalls and fireworks in the evening.

Concarneau, like St Malo was built up around a huge castle which defended the port and is now a resort destination. The old town within it has been lovingly kept and is now full of restaurants, boutiques and other tourist traps. It is small enough to explore in a short time but large enough to have all the facilities one would hope for – ie, restaurants.

Unfortunately Les had her Maui Jim sunglasses stolen here which was a bit of a downer.

As our water tanks were running low after the long sail the previous few nights we filled up our water tanks to over-flowing and set off for La Rochelle via 3 islands along the way. Isle de Groix, Isle Houat and Isle Yeu.

hmmmm.... it’s not always wise to fill up your tanks with water without tasting the water first!
