..enroute to Cadiz

We left at sunrise knowing we had a long journey to Cadiz. The weather was a bit cloudy but the wind was perfect and we happily sailed along at 8 knots. Then there was a wind shift, so we got the pole out for the Genoa and had another good sail.
Bliss!

Until, about 10 miles out from Cadiz we heard a big roaring, throaty engine but could not see any boats on the radar, AIS or chart plotter. Within five minutes a huge grey/black Spanish Customs boat was next to us! 5 pairs of eyes scrutinizing us!  derrrr!
Keep calm! Don’t panic! Don’t DO anything. I stayed at the helm. They looked all around us and even got their binoculars out. Their boat went from one side to the other, back again – within 10 meters.
John was checking to make sure we had channel 16 working on the VHF radio in case they summoned us.
Are they going to board us?
Do we have the correct flags out?
Are we legal?
Yes, thankfully we had the correct flags out, that is we were flying the Spanish flag and our yellow customs flag. We’re probably legal, hahaha!

After what seemed an eternity they turned and roared off back into the horizon as quickly as they had appeared. Later we found out that a lot of drug running goes on from Morocco to Cadiz!

Again we didn’t make it during the light but the entrance was easy and the visitor mooring was simple.
We got settled and went to bed.
