Getting fresh supplies in the Marquesas can be difficult so when we heard there was a fresh fruit and vegetable market at 5am near the dinghy dock we set the alarm and headed in.  Obviously the French aren’t as punctual as we were lead to believe because the produce didn’t turn up until closer to 6am but that was okay, gave us time to slip along to the boulongerie and buy fresh baguette, croissants and pain au raisin – it’s magnifique en France!

At the dinghy dock several local fishing boats had come in with their early morning catch including some huge yellow fin tuna and wahoo.  The fishermen were gutting the fish and throwing scraps into the water where at least a dozen or more sharks were fighting over it.  It was quite spooky to see good sized sharks (2-3m) up close in shallow water.  The scariest thing was that getting down to the dinghy involved climbing down a slippery ladder – not a good time to fall in!!  Made us think twice about our morning swim – we’d been happily swimming off the  boat but opted to give it a miss today.

After an internet session at the local cafe (it’s nice to catch up on news...but really, nothing much has happened in the past month!) we headed out of Taihoe and are on our way around to Anaho Bay in the north of Niku Hiva.
