New Year’s
Eve was celebrated in fine style by the Bandit crew - we headed to fellow Kiwi
boat Balvenie for a pot luck dinner. We began with bubbly which is always
a great way to herald in a new year, moved on to some delicious food including
prawns and cheesecake (not together!) and the year ended with a wonderful
fireworks display in the bay at French Cay. Have to admit that we didn’t
actually stay up for the fireworks.....we bailed out at about 10pm but got up
when we heard the action starting!
New Year’s
Day dawned with a gentle breeze and David finally felt well enough to agree to
us upping anchor. He’s been laid low with shingles for nearly three weeks
now and anyone who has had them will know how painful they are. We set off
from French Cay in Roatan after breakfast and had a fantastic sail down to the
Cayos Cochinos....a group of islands and cays just off the Honduras
mainland. It felt fantastic to be out sailing again.
We’re in a
mooring field at Cochinos Grande which is absolutely stunning....only one other
boat in the anchorage and a few deserted holidays homes (mansions) on the
shore. The snorkelling here is meant to be great so we will check it out
this afternoon if the skipper feels up to it. |
