African Queen

What a fantastic farewell we had as we left the Mediterranean....dozens of dolphins surrounded us as we motored out of the Straits of Gibraltar into the Atlantic Ocean.  Dolphins are a sign of good luck for mariners and they definitely boosted our spirits.  Bandit certainly felt the like African Queen (for those who don’t know we’re trying to head each report with an appropriate movie title).

The afternoon and evening passed uneventfully as we motored our way down the African coast, passing numerous ships and fishing boats and listening to encounters on the VHF (amazing what you do to stop boredom on night watch).  The wind finally got up at about 3am and we’ve been sailing ever since at speeds of up to 7 knots.  With a long lazy swell of around two metres, it’s very pleasant out here.  We hope to make landfall at Mohammedia on the Moroccan coast sometime tonight.
