Santiago and further South

We took the bus into Santiago De Compostela - a "squat, ugly church"
according to architectural historian, P Jones. 50 cents lets you light an
electric "candle". There was an alarming number of pilgrims - some with
matching "No pain, no glory" tee shirts.

On Sunday we headed down to Bayona. We arrived fairly late to be told
there was no room in either marina. There was some sort of regatta going
on but still plenty of visible gaps. Other people we´ve met have had
similar experiences in Bayona. Maybe Drake sacked the place? We anchored
in the harbour - our first night at anchor and had just gone to sleep when
there was a fantastic firework display over the harbour. We were perfectly
positioned to watch. The next day we motored back North a few miles to the
Iles De Cies, which lie in the mouth of the Ria de Vigo, and anchored off
a sheltered beach to the East of the islands.

The children loved the beach so we stayed a second night but woke to find
ourselves in thick fog. We couldn´t see the beach. The wind got up that
night but the anchor held well and the fog was blown away. We got up early
to head for Portugal.

Tim makes some tedious point as the sun goes down - the following day´s
fog made that beach invisible

motor cruiser Pedro Vitor that had dropped anchor beside us
