Fancy meeting you here...

One of the reasons we pushed on South was to get to the Algarve before
some friends from Suffolk came to the end of their holiday here. James,
Amanda, Becky, Hannah and Toby Groom from Harkstead were staying a few
miles East of Lagos and came to see us for a day. We had a great time -
the children playing in some big surf on one of the beaches and the
grown-ups (when not pulling the children back to the sand) catching up on
gossip.

We´ve also seen Roy Beaumont, father of Penny´s friend Philly, who´s doing
the ARC for the second time this year. He first did it 15 years ago in a
34-footer. He´d left his current boat, Zamia II, in Lagos and was back
with a couple of friends to sail her down to the Canaries.

We plan to move at the end of this week. It´s about 450 miles to
Madeira/Porto Santo. We need to stock up, check the boat over and finish a
few jobs. The children started ´school´ last week - two hours of literacy
and numeracy plus some project work each morning. They´ve been doing Drake
and Columbus. There´s a museum in the town dedicated to the Portugese
Great Discoveries. It´ll make a good ´school outing´ before we go.
