All good here in port Vila. Our friend Mark is settling into life on FALBALA! We went for a nice little snorkel round the island opposite Efate, enjoyed a sundowner at the Iririki resort where they light the garden gas candle lights to the sound of a man holding a torch and blowing into a big shell. We went to the Vanuatu Museum this morning. Small but interesting. They display impressive masks from the various islands and explain the ancient cultures. There are also huge and magnificent TamTams, the islands wood carvings, some of them, the slit ones are the drums used for the dances. There was also a demonstration of sand drawing. The man drew a turtle in front of us using only one finger in a continuous trait. Such impressive skills. It was beautiful. We then went to fly Mike’s radio controlled helicopter. It crashed a few times but also flew very well. Unfortunately the weather is still variable. We have sunny days and rainy ones. Always hot though. Still not sure when we can leave for New Caledonia. The winds are still blowing in the wrong direction. But we have extended our one month visa which expired today so we are “legal” again and there is no problem waiting here in Vanuatu where we are having fun!
