Sorry if we haven't been updating our blog for a while! Been rather busy and internet connection hasn't been easy. So I am sending you this via our Satellite phone.

We had a great time with Janet and Neville. We left Boston under beautiful sunshine, no wind and sea looking like glass. We had to motor all day but it was beautiful. Went through Cape Cod Canal at 10kts of speed the currant being so strong and went up to Wood's Hole where we anchored. The wind picked up big time the next day and we sailed to Martha's Vineyard. Big-ish sea and lots of wind! We hired a car and explore the island for 2 days. We intended to go to Nantucket but the winds were against us so we abandoned that idea. We went instead to New Bedford and from there back to Newport.

We caught up with Missy and David in Newport and had two fabulous evenings with them. One at the New York Yacht Club and one at their fantastic house where they really spoiled us with delicious food and wine. Also met their dogs, Jackson and Maggy who are terrific.

We left Newport last Thursday, just the two of us on board and had to motor most of the way to Stonington where we anchored for the night. Next morning we went off to Port Jefferson on Long Island and had a truly awful day. Beating 30kts+ wind all day and high sea. At some points, we resemble more a submarine than a sailing yacht. We took so much water on that our bilges filled up to the floor boards. Quite unpleasant trip and very slow of course due to the wind being in the nose all day. So we only arrive at Port Jefferson after dark, but anchored and had a good night. Shattered!

Next day was beautiful again and we had a cracking sail to Larchmont where John and Sue joined us on Sunday. We set sail as soon as they got onboard and went through Hell's Gate to New York.

That's where we celebrated my birthday yesterday! Great day. We went to Central Park and took a horse and carriage which was fun. We then had a delicious lunch in a Seafood restaurant. Went to visit the New York Yacht Club in the afternoon and back on board in the evening for Champagne.

Thanks for all your birthday wishes. My phone was very hot all day!

Off again today. Not too sure where we will stop but as the weather looks like it might get rough towards the end of the week we may take advantage of the present calm weather and do an overnighter to Cape May. We will decide later.

Hope you are all well.

Hugs
