We left the Emerald Bay marina early this morning, refuelling at 0730 and sailing by 0800. A 55 mile passage to Conception Island, an uninhabited island surrounded by reefs with a good anchorage at the NW of the island. Light winds and fairly calm seas. Initially we sailed close hauled in 8 knots of wind, but it was clear that we would have to average around 6 knots to get into the anchorage in sufficient light to see the coral heads in the bay---and we were only making 5 knots in the light wind. So at 1015 we started motor sailing and anchored at 1615. Lovely beach, patches of coral and a nice bay anchorage with about 10 other boats at anchor. Look forward to some snorkelling tomorrow. We plan to stay for 2 days, then off on a long passage to the DR. A happy new year to all---we will be having ours here. Sent from Mail for Windows |
