An overnight sail last night to the island of Sipora in the Mentawais--another surfing Mecca---and for a change we sailed all but the last ten miles--a nice beam reach most of the way in winds between 5 and 13 knots and calm seas with no significant swell. So I manage to conserve my precious fuel for the windless days ahead.
This will be our kicking off point for the Ocean crossing, probably set off tomorrow giving us a day and night in a calm anchorage before the long motor south to find the trade winds. For today--we dropped the hook at 7a.m.---we have a calm anchorage in a sandy bay, with a resort not far away--we'll go and have a look and spend our last rupiah.
