We much enjoyed our couple of weeks in the
Marquesas--the islands are awesome in their beauty and I guess seen by very
few--about as remote as could be!
After our couple of days on Fatu Hiva, we spent
most of our time anchored in Taiohae on Nuku Hiva--enjoying good food, touring
the island etc. Then yesterday, after Alan had left us to fly home, we
sailed to another island--Oa Pou--and spent our time anchored in a village
bay.
But it's time to move on--the Tuamotus are
calling--some 500 miles passage--3 or 4 days. These islands are quite
different--coral reefs and lagoons--low lying rather than the spectacular
mountains of the Marquesas. It will be back to sand, swimming and
snorkelling!
So we're now sailing fast in a 15 knot wind on a
broad reach and enjoying the ride--though it'll be hard to get back to the night
watches!
