 Patra suspension bridge in the distance. The picturesque inner harbour where on October 7th 1571 the naval
battle of Lepanto took place between the Turks and the Greeks, with the help of
thhe Spanish and the Vatican navies , and led to the end of The Ottoman
Empire dominance of the Mediterranean.On our arrival in Nafpaxtos we found people busy
errecting speakers and lights and when we spoke to someone who could speak a
little English he informed us that they were preparing for the re enactment of
the famous battle and that this was held annually.Luckily we were able to attend
this event and felt very pleased with ourselves on this coincidental
find.
