11th Nov. Departed Lagos for Villamora gusty fine
winds but not enough to sail so ended up motor sailing.Decided as it was a short
leg to Villamora we would find a nice cove on the way and anchor out and have
some lunch and if we were brave enough have a dip.Water temps here are still
quite cold and the Atlantic breeze is very evident!
Anchorage found in Portimao which was quite
sheltered but local fishermen obviously do not have speedometers as
their constant high speed wash made us all feel a little queasy. Decided
not to swim as there was quite a lot of debris in the water.Continued on to
arrive around 3.40 Villamora.Very helpful staff who spoke very good English.Good
facilities and rates agreeable 26 euros + tax.
Berthed next to an old schooner Codor De
Villamora which was being restored. After a quick wash stepped ashore and
found to our good fortune a wine tasting session in progress at the Hotel
opposite our Berth! How good was that ,naturally stepped inside to sample the
wares .There were all sorts of local dignitaries inside either promoting a
region of Portugal or their own vineyards. Here we were introduced to a
descendant from the Portuguese's Royal family who was promoting his wares from
his vineyard .He gave us a personal invitation to visit him at his vineyard
saying he would make us most welcome!! We also met the equivalent to Rich Stein
who was there to sort out his wine menu and again were asked to visit his
restaurant. A good few hours later left feeling quite euphoric.
Lots of Chinese restaurants and the English
community is very evident here.Thought it would be a good idea to check out the
Chinese and we were not disappointed again very friendly staff.
We like Villamora!
Next day was spent boat cleaning and making a curry
lunch.Got out dingy and attached engine as we are now needing to use it to get
from A to B. eg showers etc.
Moving on down the coast on Wednesday.
