Wednesday 11th August

We left Lowestoft at 6.35am on route to Ipswich, hoping to find a berth in one of the  marinas in the River Orwell. We hugged the coast with no wind and motored. We called ahead and managed to secure a berth at Suffolk Yacht Harbour. Continuing to motor and keeping close inshore, the wind filled in to a force 4 directly on our nose (no change there then). We had the tide with us and made very good time. Despite the wind over tide situation the overfalls and possibility of rough water close in shore were minimal. As we approached Felixstowe we saw more sailing boats than we had seen throughout the whole of the rest of our trip around the UK. It was great sailing weather and is obviously a popular sailing area. At least as busy as the Solent on a fine day in August. We continued in to the Orwell river and were on our berth in the Suffolk Yacht Harbour (after stopping on the fuel berth to top up the tank) by about 2pm.

We went for a lovely walk through Levington Marshes to The Ship pub in Levington for a quick drink before returning to the boat to cook dinner.
