We set off leisurely from Anzio for a relatively short 30 mile trip to Rome. Initially we had no wind but quite a swell, which was a bit of a puzzle as there doesn't seem to have been any winds at sea to cause it.

Fortunately rounding the point the wind filled in and the swell slowly disappeared. Sails up and a very nice sail nearly all the way to Rome. En route we were discussing how to get Bob to the airport. We had been told by an English boat that they had found the journey from the main marina to Rome city and/or the airport quite difficult. Looking at the pilot books we realised that the Tiber river and still better the Rome canal had some little yards/marinas - so we decided to have a go at being as close as possible to the airport - up the canal (possibly up the creek if it went wrong).

We duly followed a fishing trawler into the canal and half a mile up we turned into a little marina with boat yards, Coast guards etc. - Happily a guy waived to us from a pontoon and help us into a berth. Turned out to be some pontoons run by a local sailing club. A little Italian negotiation sorted out a fee for two nights. It really is quite charming being in the middle of a 'real Italian' village rather than a new marina.

We then spent the rest of the afternoon in the village figuring out how to get Bob to the airport and us to Rome for a day out.
