As planned we set of at 5.00am for the 90 mile crossing. Whilst dark as we slipped out of the port at St Remo, dawn appeared almost as soon as we were on open water.

The forecast for our area was NE/NW F3 to 5 so pretty ideal for the crossing. However listening to all the gale warning not far away was somewhat concerning. Happily the forecasters delivered what was promised so motor sailing – to keep up a steady 7knots all worked out fine.

The atmosphere was as clear as a bell so we had magnificent views of the snow-capped Alps to the North and then about four hours into the trip we could see the snow-capped mountains on Corsica on the other side. So actually we were never out of sight of land.

We were joined mid crossing by some porpoises who played off the bow for 10/15 minutes. Few ships or other boats were seen until we arrived off the coast of Corsica.

Landing at 7.00pm in the Port of Macinaggio on the NE tip of Corsica
