Yesterday we attempted to leave Genoa and head East.  The high winds on Friday and Saturday were forecasted to have dropped. They had indeed dropped but the confused swell outside the harbour was very uncomfortable to say the least. So after only five miles we pulled into the Genoa airport marina.

I am beginning to think that the Bay of Genoa is at the grotty end of the Med. – all the westerly gales send their waves/swell there, which then combine with the Easterly winds that come off the Italian mountains and hey presto it’s like being in a washing machine.

This morning we tried again – after a day of relative calm surely the swell had gone. Well it was certainly less but it still wasn’t the smoothest of rides. The good news was we had a reasonable Easterly wind on our tail and the strong Easterly winds that had blown over the weekend had left quite a strong Easterly current. The result was a fast ride along the coast which took us nearly sixty miles before we pulled into San Remo – Only ten miles or so to the French boarder.

From now on we are back to what might be called home territory ‘well explored and reported last year’ so the bulletins/blog might slow down a little. I am afraid I have no new pictures to post at the moment.

Oh I forgot to mention – we nearly lost Alison overboard yesterday. Alison slipped while stepping across from the pontoon to the boat yesterday, ending up with one leg in the water (and her shoe) and me hanging onto to her for dear life. Having recovered her shoe we had to put ice onto a bruised shin which rather ruined the evening gin and tonic. – Apparently it was my fault as I hadn’t put the Passerelle out for her to cross elegantly over.
