We set off Thursday mid –day from Port de Bormes to Ajaccio directly. The grib file was showing pretty good winds Thursday afternoon through to Friday over the whole route and of the right direction.

The wind ended up exactly as forecasted with a South West F5 dropping to F4 during the night. With these winds we had a great sail covering the 142 miles in exactly 21 hours arriving in Ajaccio at 9.00am (an average speed of 7knots – not bad). The trip itself was pretty uneventful with no other sailing boats and only a few ferries about mid-night (Toulon to Ajaccio night ferries). With a good moon for much of the night it was quite a pleasant night passage and not particularly cold.

We only saw one small dolphin the whole trip which was a bit surprising. We did however have some little birds that landed on the boat, hung around about fifteen minutes for a rest and then off – I guess if you were flying some 50 miles offshore you might fancy a rest.

Alison arrived this morning from Toulon on the big ferry – tomorrow we may be stuck here another day as strongish winds are forecasted. Hopefully Monday the latest we will start heading towards Bonifacio.
