Some other things you can't, or shouldn't, photograph

2/9/11. One of the magical things about night sailing offshore is the
luminescence of the wake. We had some very dark nights, with no moon and of
course we had the internal boat lights out to preserve our night vision. As the
we travel through the water millions of tiny creatures disturbed by the wake
flash their luminescence. Some of the larger ones look like tiny sparks in the
water, and when motoring the wake is like two aircraft vapour trails behind us,
stretching back many metres. I tried to photograph it, but my camera just can’t
catch it, so I’ll just have to remember the sight. But here’s what the camera
saw.
