Peniche to Cascais 24/8/11

Another Yanmar day, not enough wind most of the way. Until rounding Cabo Raso to run down to Cascais. We had full main and the Naughty Sail up, and had just a little wind acceleration rounding the corner. In up to 20 knots of wind with 8 knots through the water it was fun, and allowed us to beat the other boat into the anchorage (its not a race, but it’s still nice to get there first…)

 

En route Vasco, the resident author / fisherman, got his sextant out and took sun sights. He got our latitude correct down to one mile! Very impressive. So we knew exactly where we were North and South, but absolutely no idea East / West. Apparently Portugal was in the way for the rest of the sights, so a horizon was not available.

 

We anchored in the bay outside Cascais in 20 knots of wind, but close in and had a quiet night – apart from the loud music from shore…
